The Scarlet Knights are back in town!

I said the Rutgers women’s basketball team would upset second-seeded Auburn in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  I just didn’t expect the Scarlet Knights to do it by 28 points.  What a performance at the RAC Monday night.  It was vintage, old-time R-U women’s b-ball.  Vivian Stringer and Company jumped out to leads of 9-0, 13-2 and 22-4 in knocking the S-E-C Tigers right out of the Big Dance…holding Auburn to a season-low 28-percent field goal shooting…holding the league’s Player of the Year DaWanna Bonner to 17-points, four below her season average.  And, individually, it was a total team effort for the 21-12 Scarlet Knights.  Junior guard Epiphany Prince had a game-high 27-points.  And senior center Kia Vaughn and senior forward Heather Zurich scored 15 and 12 points respectively in their RAC finales.  So, Rutgers moves on to the Oklahoma City regional semi-finals to take on six-seeded Purdue this coming Sunday at a time to be determined.  The Boilermakers were almost as impressive Monday night, blowing out third-seeded North Carolina 85-70 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Well it appears contagious…like on the gridiron, this RU WBB squad is finishing in grand fashion–this was a decent SEC squad they smeared, and making the ’sweet 16′ is a commendable accomplishment–hats off to Coach Stringer and her staff.

Andrew (In AL)….coach Stringer shouldn’t be compared to Schiano and any moderate successes he has had in football. Coach Stringer is the consumate recruiter/coach. She knows how to get the most out of her players. She’s a life role model to those young ladies as well as a wonderful coach. If RU ever builds a new RAC, it should be named the C. Vivian Stringer Arena period. Schiano has had many benefits that his predecessors never had…i.e. the Hale Center, new scoreboard, tutoring all from Mulcahey. But Mulcahey also went off the deep end and commited RU to economic disaster by over paying Schiano, creative payments to him, the Nelligan Sports boondagle and the unnecessary stadium addition. I say unneccessary because it was done based on one win in 2006 and without plans for funding. Schiano has yet to pay back RU with a BCS Bowl and BCS payout or reach the lofty heights of 2006. And it doesn’t look like that’ll happen soon either. The current parking and facilities in the stadium are pathetic and won’t improve with the bare bones addition either. So Andrew…understand, when you’re comparing a mature, productive Stringer with an immature, underachieving Schiano..it really makes Schiano look bad.

RE: RU Fool….I do not post on here to have you erroneously characterize my comparative references within the RU athletic program…Get this straight and digest it fully–I DISLIKE INDIVIDUALS who possess inferior intelligence attempting to involve me in their respective agenda driven propaganda, ie, your post is rubbish and, you sir, are an opinionated malcontent…you have no idea where I’m coming from and I want you to realize that I know what you are up to–just don’t use me in the ‘misguided rhetoric game’ you play, pal. And furthermore, when you wake up from your black dream go find something good about the world you live in and, get this, I do not care if you dislike Mr. Schiano–your words carry no weight and, are unsuccessfully influential within the university community–have a nice day!

Just remember–if Francis Lawrence had not put his foot in his mouth, there is no guarantee that he and Fred Gruninger would have gone after Stringer to replace Theresa Grentz. They might have gotten someone else, and it probably would have cost them much less to hire that person. I know that one person who was interested was the former George Washington womens’ coach (now at Northwestern). I’m pretty sure there were others who also were interested.
