The only challenge this Saturday is to pick a score big enough

Saturday at Rutgers Stadium, the R-U football team will look to improve to 4-1 when it takes on Texas Southern…a Football Championship Subdivision team.  There’s no real need to break the game down.  Texas Southern is awful.  The Scarlet Knights will win the first-ever meeting between the two schools…and their fourth straight game…by the count of 55-0.  The much bigger issue is how much playing time head coach Greg Schiano gives true freshman quarterback Tom Savage.  As long as Savage is healthy, it’s imperative for him to get as many snaps as possible to get ready for Friday night’s big Big East home game against Pittsburgh…particularly with Savage missing the last game two weeks ago with that concussion.  Kick-off is 3:30; coverage begins on WCTC at one with Mike Pavlichko on the Tailgate Party live outside the West Gate of Rutgers Stadium.

Savage starts and will be replaced by Natale in the 2nd half. How bad is TSU? Watch how many picks and fumbles the defense gets . Preseason I predicted 42-0. I stand by this as I think the game will be shortened by the RU running game and Schiano will not run the score up in a meaningless game.

    RU 42

    TSU 0

Starters play the first quarter and then a mixture in the second stanza–subs should exclusively deal with the remainder and gain the playing time they have earned…Rutgers 31…TSU 3…payoff for TSU is obvious, payoff for RU; fresh legs and minds (for Pitt).
