The Rutgers football team has taken another step towards another bowl game. The Scarlet Knights picked up a much-needed road win Friday night, beating Army 27-10 at West Point in a non-conference contest heard on WCTC. It puts R-U at 5-2, now needing just two wins in its last five games to qualify for a post-season berth. The Knights now are 2-0 on the road after beating the Cadets for the sixth straight time. It was a solid effort in the rain. Sophomore running back Joe Martinek led the way on the ground with 147-yards in 25-carries including two touchdowns. Special teams contributed again in a big way with true freshman Steve Beauharnais blocking a punt, picking it up and returning it eleven yards for the third t-d. And sophomore San San Te chipped in with two field goals. Also, true freshman quarterback Tom Savage did just enough…ten-for-twenty passing for 164-yards…to give him the victory in his first collegiate road game. So, it’s now off to Connecticut next Saturday in a return to Big East play and a chance to take another step towards that coveted bowl berth.

Terrible game. RU beats one of the worst teams in the country and completes one of the softest ooc schedules in the country.Bruce…playing kiss up and politics to Schiano with your complimentary, sterile, puffy articles won’t help. WCTC is finished as the flagship for RU football. You can thank Jack Ellery and his childish vendettas against Mulcahey for putting the final nail in the coffin. WOR is the new WCTC. Schiano wants a whole new fan base with a fresh perspective and a NYC presence. You have to know this.
Fool….. let’s keep side comments not related to the actual game off here. You want to post stuff like that go back the the NJ.com board where you fit in real nice.
As far as the game RU was given the game numerous times. The defense once again bailed out the offense. Schiano has to stop with his trickery plays and just play plain football. No sign of Williams which is headscratching. Savage looked good, had time to throw and will be real good before he leaves. Unfortunately, RU will have a tough time at Uconn next week and will have to play it’s best game of the year to win.
rocktherac….you’re right…sorry about that….Jack Ellery….no one is talking about Queens or Brooklyn…it’s the general NYC/NJ audience that supports the Giants and the
Jets and the general perception of big time football. The WOR audience is
perceived as more cosmopolitan. I guess you’ve noticed a move away from NJ. Just my observation. Savage will be good (if he survives) with Schiano.
Right! People in Brooklyn and Queens are really interested in Rutgers.!
Well, they did what they had to do–now they have to get down to business if they want to show that they still belong in the Big East football conference.
This game looked a bit silly at times and Army was far from top flight competition–I generally became quite bored watching this contest and that’s about as negative as I will be in this, “we’re a work in progress,” RU football season.
